The Ramgarh district also is carved out of erstwhile district of Hazaribagh on 12th September 2007. Ramgarh district has one Sub-division namely Ramgarh and Six Blocks namely Ramgarh, Gola, Mandu, Patratu, Chitarpur and Dulmi. The district headquarter is at Ramgarh town. The average altitude of Ramgarh is 337 meters above the sea level and the Latitude and Longitude of District Headquarter is 23038’ and 85034’. Ramgarh had a population of 949443. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. The Rural population is about 56% and urban population is 46% of the district. The SC population is 12%, ST Population is 22%. Population growth rate is 13%. Ramgarh has an average literacy rate of 73.2%, higher than the national average of 59.5% and State average 66.4%; with male literacy of 82% and female literacy of 64%. 14.14% of the population is under 6 years of age. The total area of Ramgarh district is 1360.08 Sq. Km, out of which 487.93 Sq. Km is forest area. The district is surrounded by Hazaribagh district in North, ramgarh district in South, Bokaro district in East, ramgarh district & Purulia district of West Bengal State in West. The rivers like Damodar, Gomati, Swarnrekha, Narki & Vairavi flow through the district and water is used for irrigation purpose as well as Industrial purpose.
